Press Release:

After opening to rave reviews last year, the Designer Capsule runway shows will once again feature high on the Perth Fashion Festival (PFF) calendar at Fashion Paramount in September 2012.

Featuring some of Western Australia’s most exciting up-and-coming and established designers, Designer Capsules 1 and 2 will showcase the Spring Summer 2012/13 collections of Daniella Caputi, Zsadar, Lisa Marjanovich, The Butcher and the Crow, Kim Barton, Steph Audino and Garth Cook.

PFF introduced the designer capsule concept in 2011 to expand the runway showcase opportunities for its local designers. Each designer will present 15-20 looks with their own choice of runway theme, music, lighting, hair, make-up and models.

“We are excited to feature the Designer Capsule shows for the second year running at Perth Fashion Festival. The shows were a huge success in 2011 and will make a return on the back of positive feedback received from both designers an d guests,” Perth Fashion Festival Designer Liaison, Chelsey Wayte said.

“Each capsule show appeals to a different demographic, allowing guests to view multiple labels in the one show. The Designer Capsule format allows each label to put their own creative stamp on their individual showcase, and provides more runway opportunities for the ever-growing contingent of talented WA designer labels.”

Designer Capsule 1, featuring Daniella Caputi, Zsadar, Lisa Marjanovich, The Butcher and the Crow is set to take on an edgy, somewhat dark theme that will create an air of mystery for guests.

Following the success of showing at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Australia 2012, ZSADAR will showcase its latest collection, Mysteries of the Organism on home soil. ZSADAR designer Shane Newton explores the idea of mutated beauty in his collection which represents sabotage and the sublime.

Having showcased her debut collection at PFF 2011, Lisa Marjan ovich will return with her beautifully feminine yet sensually confident pieces.

Daniella Caputi has continued to build her brand since establishing in 2009. Inspired by architecture and its theories, Daniella Caputi’s collection will explore the surface of architecture and its relationship with fashion and design.

Established in 2009, The Butcher and the Crow was nominated in the same year for Perth Fashion Festival Designer of Tomorrow and has continued to be inspired by beautiful fabrics and specialised dying techniques, celebrating handmade design at its most seductive.

Designer Capsule 2 features Kim Barton, Steph Audino and Garth Cook and will provide guests with a flirty and playful show.

Kim Barton will make her Perth Fashion Festival debut since launching her label this year. Through thoughtful construction and attention to detail Kim Barton oozes a feeling of cool sophistication.

Steph Audino’s trademark att ention to detail and romantic designs are inspired by her travels and her everyday surroundings. Her latest collection Seaside Sanctuary is inspired by the captivating nature found in and around the ocean.

Garth Cook returns to PFF bringing his well-defined, clean, contemporary and forward designs to Designer Capsule 2.

Designer Capsules 1 and 2 will be held on the Fashion Paramount runway at Hackett Hall – Western Australian Museum in September 2012. Designers for the third and final capsule show will be announced in the coming weeks.

Perth Fashion Festival is supported by the State Government through Eventscorp, the Department of Culture and the Arts and the City of Perth.

Further information on PFF 2012 program of events will be unveiled in coming weeks.

The gavel will fall again at this year’s event and here is a sneak peak of one of the auction items (Shhh! Don’t tell everyone, otherwise they’ll all want it).

Experience the ultimate gastronomic journey as you and 11 guests take centre stage in the extravagant bamBOO for a four course feast prepared by a Heyder and Shears chef, while Luxe Bar’s award winning bar team deliver cocktail couture and wines from their latest collection.

*Insert sales pitch here* - We think this one sells itself. Our mouths are watering just thinking about a Luxe Bar Espresso Martini and the Heyder and Shears cuisine.

How your business can get involved

2. VIP Gift Bag- goods for inclusion in each of the 110 gift bags and presented to VIP guests on the night.

MAXI-MIZE YOUR STYLE

If you’ve been spending your winter commute trawling through fashion magazines doing your spring 2012 fashion “due diligence”, you’re sure to know by now the prevailing runway trends: tribal, florals, retro and colour blocking.

This is a seemingly mixed bag of styles. But there’s one profile that runs the gamut of all these looks: the long maxi dress. This look is no longer just for that holiday in Marbella or for the vertically blessed, fashionistas of all shapes, sizes and style preference can now lead the pack this spring simply by sporting a maxi.

Here’s a rundown of maxis to suit every trend taste:

TRIBAL:  If you were one of the hundreds of fashion-forward shoppers who queued up outside H&M to get their hands on the new collection from Marni, perhaps you were lucky enough to pick up one of the maxi dresses - if so, you may want to keep those tags on and consider eBay as it was the first piece to completely sell out. The maxi exuded that signature Marni look - ethnic aesthetic.  But if you didn’t manage to snag one, you can get the same look with one of the great maxis by South, who even do a tall maxi dress for you leggy ladies. And if you happen to be lacking in the height department, don’t worry South also carries a range of looks perfectly tailored to petites.

FLORAL: Bang on trend of course is floral. Thinking of a long maxi dress usually calls to mind images of hibiscus prints and a ruffle hems. And while that look is still perfectly on-point, there’s also more options when it comes to flower power.
From the classic patters and cuts like this gorgeous Peter Som, to more modern versions like those from BCBG – it’s really any bloom you fancy.

RETRO:
When you’re talking vintage style, there’s nothing more eternally or universally flattering than a great 70s maxi, but this spring we’re seeing more eras embrace floor length, most notably the 20s. Get Gatsby-chic with looks like these incredible skimmers from Ralph Lauren, or if perhaps you don’t have quite the budget of those infamous Hampton’s hedonists, you can replicate the style with a more wallet-friendly version like this stunner by Teatro.

COLOUR BLOCKING:
Last but certainly not least, one of the most eye-catching looks of the season is bold, bright blocks. And if you’re pretty mini, this look is best when you’re going maxi, as strategically placed blocks of colour can lend a slimming and lengthening effect, а la this style from South, making you look like you’ve got miles of leg and then some!

Appetite Electric: press release

An appetite for all things electric
Are we addicted to electricity? Is it possible that technology and invention have led us down a path we cannot turn back from?
In a series of urban landscapes and colourful abstracts, photographer Ebony Frost explores how electricity has permeated every aspect of our lives and how it shapes the way we see our world.

Inspired by the nocturnal subjects of her 365 photography project The Night Owl, Ebony’s first solo exhibition, Appetite Electric, part of the Foto Freo Open Programme, asks us to look beyond the elements of life we take for granted and appreciate how comfortable our lives have become because of electricity.
“I wanted to explore our insatiable need for electricity and all the advantages it affords us,” Ebony says.

“Looking at the world through a nocturnal lens made me appreciate how much richer our lives have become because we have access to electricity”.
“I was also fascinated when last year our own Premier dismissed the need for air conditioning - it made me think - have we lost the ability to cope without all the ‘mod cons’”?

Opening at the Tu Stairwell Gallery in William Street, Northbridge, on Thursday 29 March, the exhibition runs until 14 April 2012.
Ebony has been behind the lens for 10 years, with three years spent travelling the world, camera in tow, gaining an appreciation of the built environment, urban landscapes and travel photography.

Since returning to Perth, Ebony has turned her lens toward the local creative scene, shooting images for Drum Media, Kulcha and local emerging fashion designers.

Launch Night

Would have loved to have gone to the 140 Launch last night - instead I was stuck at the shops, waiting to get my car towed after it broke down!
Let me tell you, there is nothing worse!

Of course, to cheer myself up about it today, Im heading down to the post office to pick up my new cuff!!

I got this cute starfish cuff in silver. If you want one - Haute on High is selling them for $45 - search them on facebook for more info.

Below: Ill share with you some photos & the media release in case you too, missed out!

Vibrant pop-up village opens at 140

A lively community of artists, retailers and special guests gathered at 140 in the City last night to celebrate the effervescent official opening of the 140 Pop-up Project.

The astroturf lined laneway of eclectic pop-up studios including Zara Bryson, Father, Miss Brown Vintage, Pigeonhole, We Heart Vintage, William Topp, Andy Quilty and All Of The Above Creative was alive with the sights and sounds of sideshow alley inspired theming and in-store activities.

Highlights of the opening included acoustic guitar sets by ‘Cleo Bachelor of the Year’ finalist, Ben Swift and Zara Bryson’s own singer/songwriter, Amrit Sidhu.

At the neighbouring Miss Brown Vintage pop-up a caricaturist sketched guests styled in their favourite vintage era, whilst an air of style and glamour engulfed the We Heart Vintage pop-up as spirited shoppers sipped sparkling, indulged in chocolate fondue and browsed the store’s unique collection of vintage garments and accessories.

The 140 Pop-up Project is the first pop-up community of its kind and scale in the Perth CBD and is set to provide consumers with an entirely new shopping experience.

“Our challenge was to create an innovative concept, unique to 140 which would excite and engage our customers with the kaleidoscope of amazing independent retail and artistic talent right here in Perth,” 140 Marketing Manager Kristi Dempster said.

“We identified strong consumer interest in the pop-up concept and looked to the UK and US who had successfully hosted similar projects. Consequently, the 140 Pop-up Project was born to inject a fresh and fun perspective into Perth’s retail landscape,” Ms Dempster said.

Located on the ground floor of 140, the 140 Pop-up Project opening hours are: Mon-Thu (10am-6pm), Fri – (10am–8pm), Sat – (10am-5pm) and Sun – (12pm-5pm).
