In the last few magazines I have picked up (and believe me
when I say I get every magazine
monthly!) I have seen a few features on a trend that is known as mixed prints.
This is something for me that just doesn’t
seem to work.
Sure there are your classic other staple rules such as don’t wear
black with brown or black with navy which I break on a weekly basis and hey, aren’t
rules meant to be broken anyway?
However this trend just simply doesn’t look
put together. Of course, there’s always an exception to ever rule, I have seen
a few looks I like such as this one>>
but in saying that I really do mean
a few.
As much as some people can get it horrible wrong, print size
and colour tone-wise, this look just doesn’t seem pulled together, it looks
sloppy, and is a trend that I cant see translating very well from the runway.
Think realistically, if you saw someone wearing two very bold patterns with
each other, would your first thought be, ‘oh well that’s quite fashionable isn’t
it?’ or ‘doesn’t she look stylish!’.
As a general rule of thumb, I always team a pattern (whether
it be big or small) with neutral colours or block colours in the same colour palettes.
This creates a much more refined look and has a lot more sophistication and
plays up the print, rather than drowning your figure in shapes and colours,
mismatched all over the place. This rings especially thru for a pattern like
animal print, which has the potential to look disastrously trashy if worn the
wrong way.
Anyhoo, enough from me, what do you guys think about this trend?
Oh, hey, hello!
ReplyDeleteMixing patterns is something I do all the time (example here). It's one of those "either you can figure out how to do it or you can't" kind of situations. Most people can't.
