Karl Lagerfeld has just signed on Crystal Renn for the latest Chanel ad campaign.
Lagerfeld is well known for his distaste for curvy women,
saying only fat people complain about skinny models and no one wants to see
curvy women on runways.
Why is that odd?
Renn is known for her outward struggle in the modelling
world, having had anorexia when starting out and now, a voluptuous woman, she
works as a plus size model.
(On the runway for Jean Paul Gautier)
She has written a book about her struggles and now is one of
the most famous plus size model, the only plus size model ever to appear on a
Harpers Bazaar cover, she has also been on 4 international Vogue covers and editorials
in Elle to name a few.
Shocking, but moving forward I guess, all props to Lagerfeld
for recognising beauty when he sees it.
You cant say this woman isn't attractive!
I couldn't agree more! When Karl designed a range for H&M in the UK he asked the store not to make anything larger than a UK 14 (US 10). They of course said no and he was a little put out. Fast forward a few years and he's designing outfits for Beth Ditto and having her sing at his Fendi party - ummmmmmmm, hypocrite much?! Oh but wait, didn't Beth Ditto refuse to design a range for Topshop because they didn't sell clothes in her size? Seems she's not so picky when it comes to bespoke Fendi numbers!!
ReplyDeleteIt would appear that in fashion, all of that goes out the window when you can get a piece of someone else's cool!
P.S. Thanks for the IFB welcome!
Interesting article! I hope he's booked her for being an amazing & beautiful model, not just to make a point or a statement about this subject.
ReplyDeleteThanks for your welcome post on my IFB profile. Please stop by my [very new!] blog to say hello. :)
