PFF Designer Line-up announcement!
Press Release;
Perth Fashion Festival (PFF) today confirmed Story By Tang, Ae’lkemi and S2 as its first three stand-alone designers that will show their Spring/Summer 2011/12 collections at Fashion Paramount in September.
Christine Tang’s penchant for party dresses, Chrissie Catling’s bold, minimalist look and Alvin Fernandez’s statement gowns will bring some serious fashion ‘cred’ to the new Fashion Paramount at Hackett Hall at the Western Australian Museum.
Winner of the PFF 2010 Designer of the Year award, Alvin Fernandez of Ae’lkemi said he was thrilled to be asked to be part of this year’s Festival.
“My business partner Annmarie and I were so excited to be invited to show at PFF. We are very much looking forward to staging our first solo show on home soil and can’t wait for the people of Perth to see what we do on an international and national level,” Mr Fernandez said.
PFF Director Mariella Harvey-Hanrahan said the line up of stand-alone designer shows at this year’s Festival is sure to impress and pique the interests of fashion followers of all tastes.
“Story By Tang, S2 and Ae’lkemi are three strong examples of the fashion talent we have in this State and we are delighted to have them on board for the 13th annual Festival. All have achieved widespread acclaim for their innovative designs and together have notched up an impressive show portfolio including StyleAid, G’Day USA, Milan Fashion Week and Rosemount Australian Fashion Week (RAFW).”
“Paramount will be the fashion pinnacle during the Festival and over the next few weeks we will have many other exciting designers and initiatives to announce as part of our 2011 program that is testament to the strength, diversity and growth of the Festival,” Ms Harvey-Hanrahan said.
“The Museum is an exciting and sophisticated new home for Fashion Paramount. The beauty of the venue is a fitting complement to fashion and its simplicity will ensure that all eyes are on the 32 designer collections we will be watching on the runway.”
Giant dinosaurs and prehistoric creatures will exit Hackett Hall in coming weeks so the architecturally and historically significant space can be transformed into a fashion venue able to cater for 5,000 guests over five nights.
With a European-inspired extra-wide runway, the Museum’s high ornate ceilings and stunning polished boards, the new Paramount’s understated elegance will be an impressive home for the Festival.

London Fashion Week - Sass & Bide
Sass & Bide have just finished showing at London Fashion Week, another
big step for these designers and two best friends, Sarah-Jane Clarke and Heidi
Middleton.
Their collection impressed at usual, combining all the upcoming trends
right now.
See below for a preview of what their S/S 10/11 collection comprised of.
They tuned in to the Military trend, adding khaki and some structured
looks and tops.
They have also embraced the digital print trend which is getting bigger
and bigger and hopefully we will see much more of this in Oz this season. I'm
really feeling it :)
Some more classic Sass& Bide stuff;
They have also used a very big trend this season – draping. Soft folds and
draping tops and dresses, perfect for many body types, really flattering and slimming.

15 Minutes! The Rise of The Fashion Blog
Last night was the Fifteen Minutes show, featuring fashion bloggers. This
is the first year Perth Fashion Festival has incorporated this element, and I
hope it come back next year and subsequent years.
The show started with a slideshow of pictures from various blogs with the
front row filled with Perth bloggers. I was Row A 14, seated along the likes of
Marcia Ball – PFF resident stylist, Emma Bergmeier – Xpress magazines’ fashion
editor, who styled the Fifteen Minutes and a
few other familiar faces. Other than
someone stealing my goody bag (!) the show was good.
Quote from the Perth Fashion Festival PR Media Release;
"Heavyweight
bloggers spotted in the crowd include Marcia Ball of Style Voyeur; Karen Cheng
of Snippets of Life; Songy Knox of Style Discovery; Candice Van Haltren of
Perth Fashionista; Mylie McMahon of Mylie Stylin’;
Vicky Sofield of The Fashion Catalyst; Ela Mazur of The Good Clothes; Nikita
Kashner of Kitta; Sarah Pietrzak of Ah The Possibilities; Tara Fox of The
Ginger Fox; and Kim Burrows of Neon Blonde."
I would have liked a bit more to be featured about fashion bloggers, such
as what a blog is, because (and it may surprise you to hear) there are many
people that don’t know (perhaps not so much our generation).
And what role they play and they have, although they did do a short clip
of BryanBoy and Rumi Nealy in various interviews. It was really interesting to
hear a few opinions about it as well.
My favourite part of PFF so far would have to be the student runways and
emerging designers. Such a breath of fresh air, especially after day after day
of sitting and watching clothing walk down runways on skinny girls. Maybe its just the jealousy, if I wasn’t so
tired, I'm sure I’d still be thrilled about a show. Time for a break perhaps!
The most interesting section of last night though was the last designer,
Roxanna Zamani. She hails from NZ, and was FashionTV’s Online Designer winner.
The clothing (I don’t know how easy it will be to see the details as my
camera skills are lacking) was layers and
layers of ruffled calico. All white, some stiffer materials thrown in,
but the majority was this white – almost sheer effect of calico under such
strong lighting.
Quite interesting, not the easiest to walk in by the looks of it, but something different.
Here are photos I took from the event;
The pictures I got were not as good, as I was seated in the front row and models walk very fast will their long legs!! All other events I was sitting in the media pit - so it was a lot easier to take pictures when they stopped. However I have gathered a couple more which might show it more clearly.
What do you think?

Wheels & Dollbaby! Perth Fashion Festival 2010
Last night was the much anticipated Wheels & Dollbaby show – an absolute
sellout weeks ago! Tickets were held tight, and people were much more on time
then other nights events! You could smell the excitement!
Plenty of people sporting t-shirts from Wheels & Dollbaby and the show
didn’t disappoint – true burlesque candy / rocker style, leopard print, roses,
pencil skirts, and models with attitude. The models actually were fantastic,
expressive faces, winks, smiles and they all looked like they were having fun.
Unfortunately after being in VIP for 2 hours with free champagne and
salmon cones, I lost the ability to focus my camera! Haha, sorry guys, very
limited photos from the show but heres what I got;
