Stylish Life! with Oldrids & Downtown

Oldrids is my featured site of the week; see below for some super stylish finds for all aspects of your life!

Another great gift site, Oldrids & Downtown is like a department store online.
Below are some of my favourite picks from this site - there is something for every family member, if you dont have time to go to the department stores, or find them hard to navigate - give http://www.oldrids.co.uk a try with its easy navigation system and super simple categories!

Bedding from $20
Lighting, lamps & other light features
Kitchenwares made sexy :)
Timeless chic
Fun pastel printed bags!

I much prefer one-off sites for homewares and unique pieces for the home, rather than always buying from large 'generic' feeling stores (as much as I am an IKEA fan!)
You never know what you might find and often its well worth the extra shipping cost for a really unique and well thought out gift.

Mens Essentials

For men who are struggling with their wardrobe & how to coordinate everything in it: please take heed.

Here are some great basics & essential items that you can get fromhttp://vanmildert.com:

Rainy weather jacket- great to throw on over any jeans & tee combo for when the sun goes down or the weather is not quite as lovely as it should be!

Chino pant - Every guy needs a pant thats in between his favourite pair of jeans and suit trousers he wears to the office. Simple as that, chinos solve this problem. If you haven't discovered this marvelous item - go get yourself a pair!

Cool / Stylish tees - Tshirts are boring, and so casual. Buy a couple that are easy to dress up and look like you have put more effort in.

Fashion forward business shirt - the one you pull out for fancy dinners, special occasions, weddings and that work function you have coming up....

Dark & dressy denim - torn, faded, ripped jeans that are a whole range of mid to light blues are fine to have if they are still wearable but gents! Invest in some good quality (read: expensive) dark denim jeans that look smart. Once you wear these a couple of times, they become favourable every time to your faded pair.

Knitwear - very scary for most men, but find the right one to put over your collared shirt (no, not your polos) and you will find yourself channeling instant suave and not Grandpa-esque the way you thought you would.
Dont believe me? Try one on with those dark jeans (above), nice collared shirt (any one will do) and ask the opinion of your girlfriend, sister, mum or female friend. Pure class.

Women, if you agree - feel free to forward this article, link or post to that special someone, husband, boyfriend, partner or brother who might need a helping hand! Or send him my way at Myer Perth for a free styling session!

Spring Dressed & Jules B

I personally love buying online from UK sites - its easier than it ever has bee. Todays site for review;
Jules B - julesb.co.uk

Great range of dresses - print dresses always do so well every Spring, especially in Australia and a great way to find some unique prints that you wont see someone else wearing is by buying it online from international sites! Some favorites below;

Floral prints are always big in Springtime but I would suggest to be careful about all the neon colours out this season - not everyone suits them! Find a shade or colour that looks good on you and stick with that OR just go classic.

An easy way to update this look - add layers, waterfall jackets / blazers, scarfs or bright accessories and heels to take these dresses from day to night

MAXI-MIZE YOUR STYLE

If you’ve been spending your winter commute trawling through fashion magazines doing your spring 2012 fashion “due diligence”, you’re sure to know by now the prevailing runway trends: tribal, florals, retro and colour blocking.

This is a seemingly mixed bag of styles. But there’s one profile that runs the gamut of all these looks: the long maxi dress. This look is no longer just for that holiday in Marbella or for the vertically blessed, fashionistas of all shapes, sizes and style preference can now lead the pack this spring simply by sporting a maxi.

Here’s a rundown of maxis to suit every trend taste:

TRIBAL:  If you were one of the hundreds of fashion-forward shoppers who queued up outside H&M to get their hands on the new collection from Marni, perhaps you were lucky enough to pick up one of the maxi dresses - if so, you may want to keep those tags on and consider eBay as it was the first piece to completely sell out. The maxi exuded that signature Marni look - ethnic aesthetic.  But if you didn’t manage to snag one, you can get the same look with one of the great maxis by South, who even do a tall maxi dress for you leggy ladies. And if you happen to be lacking in the height department, don’t worry South also carries a range of looks perfectly tailored to petites.

FLORAL: Bang on trend of course is floral. Thinking of a long maxi dress usually calls to mind images of hibiscus prints and a ruffle hems. And while that look is still perfectly on-point, there’s also more options when it comes to flower power.
From the classic patters and cuts like this gorgeous Peter Som, to more modern versions like those from BCBG – it’s really any bloom you fancy.

RETRO:
When you’re talking vintage style, there’s nothing more eternally or universally flattering than a great 70s maxi, but this spring we’re seeing more eras embrace floor length, most notably the 20s. Get Gatsby-chic with looks like these incredible skimmers from Ralph Lauren, or if perhaps you don’t have quite the budget of those infamous Hampton’s hedonists, you can replicate the style with a more wallet-friendly version like this stunner by Teatro.

COLOUR BLOCKING:
Last but certainly not least, one of the most eye-catching looks of the season is bold, bright blocks. And if you’re pretty mini, this look is best when you’re going maxi, as strategically placed blocks of colour can lend a slimming and lengthening effect, а la this style from South, making you look like you’ve got miles of leg and then some!

More ASOS!

Many of my friends will know I shop here religiously, not only due to their large range of clothing, but the convenience of the searching - find anything you want!

I also love that they have free shipping to Australia and you can convert your view to be in Aus dollars, with their new ASOS Australia site.
I hope it stays that way!

I also adore that you can view 200 garments per page - with all sorts of accessories too.

Check out some of my favourite dresses at the moment on offer.

Go find a dress in your favourite colour! Any colour ....

Plenty of cute & sweet designs, I love this alphabet dress!

Also the colour block trend is here to stay for a while longer, moving into one garment with colour block pattern. Look out for plenty of these to come, 2 tone pants, skirts, dresses as well - go for a neutral blend like this one, and you cant go wrong! The colours will stay in style, and you can get more wear out of it.

So, if you have not already checked this place out, but have heard me rant on more times than you can count, do yourself a favour, and go check asos.com out!

GHD & the 20's!

How to achieve the look of the roaring 1920’s
With the launch of the new ghd limited edition Scarlet Styler which has been inspired by the dramatic looks of the 1920s and the soon to be released film, The Great Gatsby, the 1920s are having a fashion moment.

If there is one look that is synonymous with the twenties it is the Flapper look. The Flapper look was revolutionary in its day. The look was defined by their short skirts, at least short compared to what had gone before, their bobbed hair styles and their love of jazz. However, it is a look that is easy to achieve today.

In the recent advert for ghd, which you can see at ghd's official website, Katy Perry showed off her inner flapper when she dressed as Snow White and the Evil Queen from the fairytale for a super-cool photo shoot.
What's more it is really easy to achieve the look. When it comes to the hair it’s all about a sleek bob, which is styled to perfection using your ghd hair straighteners, or with finger waves which again can be styled using your new Scarlet Styler.

But of course fab hair needs suitable sophisticated makeup, and for the flapper look it is all about red lipstick, kohl and porcelain skin. In the 1920s flappers regularly used kohl as eye makeup to create a dramatic, dark look.
Use a darkish red lipstick – ideal for this dark season – to create a strong ‘cupid’s bow’ shape in the centre of your lips, emphasising their shape and creating a cute pout for the ultimate 120s look. Use a light foundation for perfect porcelain skin and avoid blusher for a clear, bright look.

What's more the look is perfect for a night out, and by going for a sparkly flapper dress, sexy 20s hair and flapper makeup you will look super hot for your fancy dinner or cocktail party. What kind of 20's style do you love?

StyleTread

Recently I have noticed a few StyleTread ads, and decided it was time to go check them out myself.

The first thing I noticed was free postage! Always a score, and you know you are not paying extra just because you are buying online.

The second thing? That they have a return policy, with free return shipping for 100 days! Thats nearly a third of a year! I dont know anyone else that will offer a returns policy with this much time.

Thirdly, the range of shoes they have are amazing. a whole category of shoes under $100, plus heels, flats, sandals - you name it, they have pretty much got it.

I have several things on my wishlist - yet to order, so Ill have to let you know how it goes. I have seen plenty of ads for these guys, but they really are a great site and will be soon added to my list of bookmarks :)

Check some pictures below of my personal picks;
