Mens Essentials

For men who are struggling with their wardrobe & how to coordinate everything in it: please take heed.

Here are some great basics & essential items that you can get fromhttp://vanmildert.com:

Rainy weather jacket- great to throw on over any jeans & tee combo for when the sun goes down or the weather is not quite as lovely as it should be!

Chino pant - Every guy needs a pant thats in between his favourite pair of jeans and suit trousers he wears to the office. Simple as that, chinos solve this problem. If you haven't discovered this marvelous item - go get yourself a pair!

Cool / Stylish tees - Tshirts are boring, and so casual. Buy a couple that are easy to dress up and look like you have put more effort in.

Fashion forward business shirt - the one you pull out for fancy dinners, special occasions, weddings and that work function you have coming up....

Dark & dressy denim - torn, faded, ripped jeans that are a whole range of mid to light blues are fine to have if they are still wearable but gents! Invest in some good quality (read: expensive) dark denim jeans that look smart. Once you wear these a couple of times, they become favourable every time to your faded pair.

Knitwear - very scary for most men, but find the right one to put over your collared shirt (no, not your polos) and you will find yourself channeling instant suave and not Grandpa-esque the way you thought you would.
Dont believe me? Try one on with those dark jeans (above), nice collared shirt (any one will do) and ask the opinion of your girlfriend, sister, mum or female friend. Pure class.

Women, if you agree - feel free to forward this article, link or post to that special someone, husband, boyfriend, partner or brother who might need a helping hand! Or send him my way at Myer Perth for a free styling session!

Spring Dressed & Jules B

I personally love buying online from UK sites - its easier than it ever has bee. Todays site for review;
Jules B - julesb.co.uk

Great range of dresses - print dresses always do so well every Spring, especially in Australia and a great way to find some unique prints that you wont see someone else wearing is by buying it online from international sites! Some favorites below;

Floral prints are always big in Springtime but I would suggest to be careful about all the neon colours out this season - not everyone suits them! Find a shade or colour that looks good on you and stick with that OR just go classic.

An easy way to update this look - add layers, waterfall jackets / blazers, scarfs or bright accessories and heels to take these dresses from day to night

PERTH FASHION FESTIVAL SET TO GO GLOBAL FOR 2012

*Press Release*

Perth Fashion Festival (PFF) is set to expand its global reach in 2012 with the announcement of two new international ambassadors, Jean Michel Jarre, French composer, performer and music producer and Marie Choo, a well-known and respected Singaporean fashion and lifestyle writer and socialite.

These new appointments will see PFF’s ambassadorial program fuse the talents of music, fashion and photography in three different corners of the world with Jarre and Choo joining PFF’s inaugural international ambassador and New York based fashion photographer, Russell James to help put WA designers on the international map.

Jarre first came to international fame three decades ago with his number one hit album Oxygene and in 2013 he plans to present Rendez-vous Perth, a tailored, city-scale, civic concert event. He personifies French couture with his natural elegance and style and his music is most often aired to accompany the presentations of the co llections of major fashion houses.

“Since attending last year’s Festival and seeing firsthand WA’s creative talents, it’s a thrill to start building community connections that will be the foundation for Rendez-vous Perth. I’m honoured to be appointed one of Perth Fashion Festival’s International Ambassadors.” said Jean Michel Jarre

“Perth and its people are extraordinary. That is why it will be easy for me share the PFF story with my contacts in the creative world. Who knows, perhaps I may be able to open doors internationally for WA’s immensely talented creative industry.”

Marie Choo contributes articles to publications such as Nylon and InSing as well as writing for her fashion and style blog, Style-Canvas.

“It is such an honour for me to be appointed as an International Ambassador for Perth Fashion Festival 2012, alongside Jean Michel Jarre and one of the world 9;s leading fashion photographers, WA-born Russell James,” said Marie Choo.

“This year will be the first time I’ve attended Perth Fashion Festival and having read and heard so much about the vibrant Perth fashion scene, I am looking forward to discovering the established labels, as well as emerging designers.”

PFF is keen to appoint international ambassadors who are key creative influencers in their domestic market to support WA’s creative industry and the City of Perth in their home countries.

"I am so proud and excited by the addition of two new international ambassadors to the Perth Fashion Festival team for the simple reason that it will take Perth's brand global and in doing so allows our talent and creativity to be seen worldwide,” said Perth Lord Mayor and Perth Fashion Festival Ambassador, Lisa Scaffidi.

"These ambassadors will enable international visitors to realise that o ur State’s strengths go beyond mining and natural beauty. Our creative industry and city are truly inspirational and world standard."

PFF is supported by the State Government through Eventscorp, the Department of Culture and the Arts and the City of Perth.

Further information on PFF 2012 program of events will be unveiled in coming weeks.

Fashion Talks 2012

Press Release;

*Note: I have been to one or more of these each year and they are FULL of information - go grab coffee with your mum or sister and go with her to this....they serve wine too :)

FASHION TALKS 2012: COLLECTORS & CURATORS
Dr. Gene Sherman, Gallery Owner and Philanthropist
Charlotte Smith, The Darnell Vintage Collection
Karen Quinlan, Director of Bendigo Art Gallery

Fashion Talks is Fremantle Arts Centre’s annual series, bringing fashion icons to the stage to discuss their career, their craft and the industry as a whole.

Heralding from remarkably different backgrounds, each of these women have made significant contributions to the industry in Australia. Over the series audiences will meet a gallery director
and philanthropist with a penchant for Japanese minimalism, the heiress of the country’s largest vintage collection, and the woman who has singlehandedly turned a regional town into a fashion capital.

On Friday 3 August series host, Meri Fatin, will be joined by Charlotte Smith. In 2004, Charlotte inherited The Darnell Collection from her godmother, which comprises what is now Australia’s
largest private collection of vintage clothing and accessories. Doris Darnell, a Pennsylvanian Quaker, collected over 5,000 items from traditional garments from the 18th century alongside incredible pieces by Valentino, Chanel, Balenciaga and Pucci. The Darnell Collection has been
featured in a range of high-end fashion editorials, runway shows and fine art exhibitions, including a recent exhibition at Bendigo Art Gallery.

Gallery director and philanthropist Dr. Gene Sherman has been collecting and wearing pieces by Japanese designers Issey Miyake, Comme des Garcons and Yohji Yamamoto since the 1980s.

Gene presents at Fashion Talks on Tuesday 7 August to discuss her attraction to Japanese minimalism, the precise way in which she acquires and ‘retires’ garments from her working wardrobe, and the recent donation of over 60 pieces to the Powerhouse Museum in Sydney.

Karen Quinlan, Director of the Bendigo Art Gallery in regional Victoria, is the final presenter of the 2012 Fashion Talks series on Tuesday 14 August. Karen’s background in fashion has informed her practice as a curator, securing renowned exhibitions from the Victoria & Albert Museum in London to record-breaking crowds in Bendigo. From The Golden Age of Couture featuring the designs of Galliano and McQueen, to Grace Kelly: Style Icon, Karen has brought some of the world’s greatest designers to our shores.

Press Release:

After opening to rave reviews last year, the Designer Capsule runway shows will once again feature high on the Perth Fashion Festival (PFF) calendar at Fashion Paramount in September 2012.

Featuring some of Western Australia’s most exciting up-and-coming and established designers, Designer Capsules 1 and 2 will showcase the Spring Summer 2012/13 collections of Daniella Caputi, Zsadar, Lisa Marjanovich, The Butcher and the Crow, Kim Barton, Steph Audino and Garth Cook.

PFF introduced the designer capsule concept in 2011 to expand the runway showcase opportunities for its local designers. Each designer will present 15-20 looks with their own choice of runway theme, music, lighting, hair, make-up and models.

“We are excited to feature the Designer Capsule shows for the second year running at Perth Fashion Festival. The shows were a huge success in 2011 and will make a return on the back of positive feedback received from both designers an d guests,” Perth Fashion Festival Designer Liaison, Chelsey Wayte said.

“Each capsule show appeals to a different demographic, allowing guests to view multiple labels in the one show. The Designer Capsule format allows each label to put their own creative stamp on their individual showcase, and provides more runway opportunities for the ever-growing contingent of talented WA designer labels.”

Designer Capsule 1, featuring Daniella Caputi, Zsadar, Lisa Marjanovich, The Butcher and the Crow is set to take on an edgy, somewhat dark theme that will create an air of mystery for guests.

Following the success of showing at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Australia 2012, ZSADAR will showcase its latest collection, Mysteries of the Organism on home soil. ZSADAR designer Shane Newton explores the idea of mutated beauty in his collection which represents sabotage and the sublime.

Having showcased her debut collection at PFF 2011, Lisa Marjan ovich will return with her beautifully feminine yet sensually confident pieces.

Daniella Caputi has continued to build her brand since establishing in 2009. Inspired by architecture and its theories, Daniella Caputi’s collection will explore the surface of architecture and its relationship with fashion and design.

Established in 2009, The Butcher and the Crow was nominated in the same year for Perth Fashion Festival Designer of Tomorrow and has continued to be inspired by beautiful fabrics and specialised dying techniques, celebrating handmade design at its most seductive.

Designer Capsule 2 features Kim Barton, Steph Audino and Garth Cook and will provide guests with a flirty and playful show.

Kim Barton will make her Perth Fashion Festival debut since launching her label this year. Through thoughtful construction and attention to detail Kim Barton oozes a feeling of cool sophistication.

Steph Audino’s trademark att ention to detail and romantic designs are inspired by her travels and her everyday surroundings. Her latest collection Seaside Sanctuary is inspired by the captivating nature found in and around the ocean.

Garth Cook returns to PFF bringing his well-defined, clean, contemporary and forward designs to Designer Capsule 2.

Designer Capsules 1 and 2 will be held on the Fashion Paramount runway at Hackett Hall – Western Australian Museum in September 2012. Designers for the third and final capsule show will be announced in the coming weeks.

Perth Fashion Festival is supported by the State Government through Eventscorp, the Department of Culture and the Arts and the City of Perth.

Further information on PFF 2012 program of events will be unveiled in coming weeks.
