PERTH FASHION FESTIVAL TAKES BIG STEP

*Press release*

For the first time in Australian fashion history, running commentary via Audio Description for people who are vision impaired will be part of five Perth Fashion Festival (PFF) shows this year. New methods of communication have changed the way Australians create, access and participate in arts and culture and Audio Description is one of these initiatives.

Audio Description refers to an additional narration track on visual media (including television, film, dance, opera and visual art) for consumers who are blind or vision impaired. It consists of a narrator speaking throughout the presentation, scribing what's happening on the stage during natural pauses in dialogue.

Headphones for Audio Description will be available at Morrison, Myer Fashion Luncheon, Designer Capsule #3, Restyle on the Runway, and the exclusive VIP closing event, Giving Back is the New Black, making the Festival a revolutionary step for the fashion industry.

At Re-style on the Runway on Thursday 20 September, sisters Erin and Claire McGlew will strut their stuff down the runway with the help of their Guide Dogs, Ronnie and Swanee. The women will be styled in hair and make-up like all the other models and their dogs will be groomed to look their best.

We’re so excited to be able to take part in Perth Fashion Festival, we’re proud to be a part of this big step forward for West Australians who are blind or vision impaired and we can’t wait to show off our style and our dogs on the Restyle runway,” said Erin McGlew.

This defining moment in fashion, a first in the southern hemisphere, will help to advance Guide Dogs WA’s primary mission to build confidence, promote wellness and help people who are vision impaired connect with the wider Western Australian community.

Perth Fashion Festival is dedicated to providing unique, imaginative programming initiatives for the Western Australia community, and this year the Festival will engage people who are vision impaired and give them the opportunity to experience fashion on a more interactive level.

PFF shares a working partnership with the Association for the Blind WA – Guide Dogs WA and will help raise awareness of Guide Dog access rights and mobility services for people who are vision impaired.

"Association for the Blind WA - Guide Dogs WA is delighted to be a part of this year's Perth Fashion Festival in a way that will engage members of the community who have been previously unable to participate in the Festival. Cultural diversity is helping fuel innovation by bringing different insights to traditional practices, and Perth Fashion Festival 2012 is embracing these opportunities by offering the Audio Description feature at several of the events this year," said Dr Margaret Crowley, CEO, Association for the Blind WA.

"One of the key elements for me creating the Perth Fashion Festival was to make fashion accessible to all, and so it is my absolute pleasure to be able to join forces with Guide Dogs WA this year to increase community accessibility even further.  Fashion is just as much about how an individual feels in the clothes they are wearing, as well as how they look.  So I am delighted to be able to share this and open the Festival to an even wider audience," confirms Mariella Harvey-Hanrahan, Perth Fashion Festival Creative Director.

PFF Press Release Update!

WA design talent gears up for Student Runway 2012 September 12, 2012

The next generation of Western Australian fashion talent will be showcasing their designs at the forthcoming Perth Fashion Festival (PFF) Student Runway on Sunday, 23 September at Fashion Paramount.

The Student Runway event will feature 60 of Western Australia’s top fashion design students from Curtin University, Central Institute of Technology, Polytechnic West, Challenger Institute of Technology, Edith Cowan University and Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts.

All six institutions nominated five students in each of the following categories; ready-to-wear women’s, ready-to-wear men’s, eco-design, contemporary evening-wear and costume couture.

An industry judging panel consisting of stylist Teagan Sewell, designer Lisa Chau, Emma Bergmeier from All of the Above Creative and Tu Boutique owner Ann nie Chong, will select the winning entries across the five different categories.

PFF Director, Mariella Harvey-Hanrahan said she is looking forward to seeing this year’s group of students present.

“Student Runway offers a wonderful opportunity to WA’s aspiring fashion designers and this year the Liz Davenport Student Runway Scholarship means the top student will have a once in a lifetime opportunity with one of WA’s most influential and successful designers,” Ms Harvey-Hanrahan said.

The top student will win a scholarship to the value of $2,000 provided by much-loved and esteemed WA designer, Liz Davenport. 2012 will be the first year for the Liz Davenport Student Runway Scholarship. The lucky scholarship winner will also receive a month long mentorship at Liz’s studio in 2013 and each individual category winner will receive a $500 voucher and a sewing machine from Spotlight.

A prelude to this year’s event will be the debut collection from the 2011 Carton designers, Samuel Donaldson, Jessica Hogg and Nicole Marrington who have been designing thei r garments in The Carton studio at Carillon City.

The winners will be announced at Student Runway being held at Fashion Paramount, Hackett Hall, Western Australian Museum on Sunday 23 September at 6:30pm.

Box Clothing - box-clothing.co.uk

Peplum is a big trend this season as all you fashionistas have already noticed - I have come across this site which has a handy feature I would like to mention;

In the main images section - once you click on an item you can see the way it looks of course but then you click on the second image - it will show you the garment on a mannequin front on.

The benefit of this is you get an idea of how high the seams / detailing sits on the garment.

See below for what I mean in regard to the peplums!
Here is a red & black colour block dress....

It comes in blue as well, and now thanks to this image you can see exactly where it falls on your figure.

See with these dresses you can see that the pink peplum dress started slightly higher & would not be as flattering on a stomach with held extra weight very low, just above the hips. The green dress is much better for those with a small waist they like to show off!

Try box-clothing.co.uk for these hot on-trend dresses and plenty more!

Shopping on a budget..

For those if you who have a strict budget in mind for shopping and perhaps feel as if you cant afford lots of fashion & shoes - think again/

It really does pay to check store prices against online prices and take the extra time if you find something you really need want to wait.

I have my eyes on a pair of metal T Bar sandals below;

Its $94.50 here at Wild Pair

Its just $90 here at Shoe Be Doo

Theres a $79 pair by Ko Fashion here at The Iconic

Down to $59.95 at Styletread

And only $54.99 at SFW Warehouse

Or a slight variation with 3 cross bars at The Shoe Shed for just $34.95

Just goes to show the great difference in shopping around - you really can save money if you take some extra time!

Website Featured: Collectables

I love handbags - and what girl doesnt!
Here is a site I have found who do all sorts of leather good, items for the home & accessories of all types including jewellery, watches, charms etc.

Ive posted below some of my favourite bags with some tips on what handbags suit you!

This bag is a great day bag and perfect for adding colour! The two way strap system makes it super easy - wear it long around your shoulder or have it as a carry bag. This one comes in teal & chocolate and both are a great alternative to the standadr black leather handbag.

This bag is by mischa Barton who does a nice range of bags & wallets. This deep cranberry colour goes with more than you think - and I have one in my rotation for all those neutral coloured outfits

All women need clutches. There is always an event or a situation in which a massive handbag full of tissues and pens is not suitable. Find a large envelope clutch in a neutral colour (like this one) to go with everything. Always be aware of the metal on bags and pick silver or gold depending on what you personally wear most

Quilted fabric for handbags will always be quite classic and Fiorelli has re-done this classic style in new season colour. Make this your go to accessory and make sure you have a few great coordinated outfits to go with it, think skinny jeans, white tee and flats to make this bag the standout!
