25 years of rock star couture closes out Perth Fashion Festival
Perth Fashion Festival has confirmed that iconic Western Australian label Wheels & Dollbaby will close the 13thannual Festival with a stand-out show to be held at His Majesty’s Theatre on Tuesday 27 September.
Celebrating its 25th anniversary this year, the rock’n’roll glamour label is certain to up the ‘cool factor’ as designer Melanie Greensmith launches her 2011 / 12 Spring Summer collection.
The typically sold-out show will feature Melanie’s husband Divinyls guitarist Mark McEntee with a soon to be announced line up of musical talent.
“Perth Fashion Festival is like family to us so we’re thrilled to be celebrating our 25th birthday party on home soil as part of the Festival. And His Majesty’s Theatre is the perfect venue to throw a posh rock’n ‘roll party for our closest family and friends!” Ms Greensmith said.
Commenting on such a significant milestone for Wheels & Dollbaby and the brand’s return to PFF, Festival Director, Mariella Harvey-Hanrahan said: “Perth loves Wheels & Dollbaby and so does the Festival. The brand is fun, lively and glamorous and always sells out!”
“Being the label’s 25th year, we expect Melanie has great things in store and will deliver not only an outstanding collection but a mind-blowing production!” Ms Harvey-Hanrahan added
Wheels & Dollbaby collections are constructed and handcrafted in Australia utilising vintage inspired and sourced fabrics. The brand has developed a cult label status amongst its Dollbaby devotees, celebrity fans of which include Jerry Hall, Gwen Stefani, Pamela Anderson, Kate Hudson, Pink, Dita Von Teese, Kelly Osbourne and Sadie Frost.

Hairtime :)
Sleek long ponytails are a great low maintenance way to keep your hair safe from this windy and rainy weather!
I highly reccommend using a ghd - running it down strands from the base of your neck to the crown. Then once done, its a great idea to use a serum aswell to seal the hair follicles as well and protects them.
GHD do a lot of serums as well that are safe to use with your straightener and work well with the heat too.
They do a 'thermodynamics' which is a great product to use if you use heat styling products a lot!
Then brush it back into your hands and tie up with a band!
Easy, low maintenance & very chic.

Jackets & Coats - still rugging up for this horrid weather!
Since the weather is still rainy and miserable, I am still buying coats and jackets!
A long time classic is fur (make it faux please) and there are so many colours and styles to choose from now that it makes buying very easy. Brown and grey mixes are a great way to go, as they will go with most outfits you have (as much as I love Prada's blue fur stole *sigh*)
K and Co have some great ladies coats and jackets at the moment such as this faux fur one below;
Other good way to incorporate fur if you feel a jacket is too much, buy it in a vest - warm fuzzy layers, without being fluffy all over!
Another good investment is a trench coat - always a staple, I would get one in black and one in brown!
They can be thrown over any outfit, day or night and its such a good way to stay warm and stylish.

More Perth Fashion Festival news;
Press Release:
Perth Fashion Festival has confirmed one of Australia’s most coveted designers Yeojin Bae will show her Summer 2011/12 collection,Premiere at the 13th annual Festival on 22 September 2011. Her collection will be the first to show at the new-look Fashion Paramount and will mark the designer’s first runway show in Western Australia.
Having amassed a worldwide cult following and stocked in some of the world’s most desired shopping destinations including Barney’s New York, Matches in London and Harvey Nichol’s in Dubai, Yeojin will make her Perth debut at PFF’s sophisticated new home – Hackett Hall at the Western Australian Museum.
“I am thrilled to be opening Perth Fashion Festival’s Fashion Paramount shows with my Summer 2011 collection ‘Premiere’. This will be my debut runway in Perth and I look forward to showing my collection of sophisticated and feminine daywear to cocktail pieces,” Yeojin said.
PFF Director Mariella Harvey-Hanrahan said she was thrilled Yeojin had chosen to show her Summer 2011/12 collection at Perth Fashion Festival.
“Yeojin is a cult status label and a big name in the Australian fashion industry and we’re delighted that she will be the opening show at Fashion Paramount!”
“Yeojin’s decision to show at PFF confirms that our Festival is being noticed by all the right people. It’s encouraging that Eastern States-based designers want to show at PFF – it evens things out with so many Western Australian designers showing at fashion events like Rosemount Australia Fashion Week,” Ms Harvey Hanrahan said.
Premiere will showcase Yeojin’s signature style – an edgy elegance with razor sharp tailoring. The collection features necklines decorated with mesh fabric, sequined pieces that hug the body in an array of sleek silks.
PFF will launch its 2011 calendar at an invitation-only event on 9 August.

Animal Print :)
I love the new styles of animal print we are seeing pop up everywhere, as once again animal print gains some popularity like giraffe and these Dalmation shoes!:![]()
I am wearing a giraffe print snood today and feeling pretty pleased with myself :)
Also - I recently bought a leopard print sunnies case but in green - a good way of incorporating animal print without looking too over the top. Also a great way of playing up neutral colours a bit more and making them more edgy / dressed up.

PFF Designer Line-up announcement!
Press Release;
Perth Fashion Festival (PFF) today confirmed Story By Tang, Ae’lkemi and S2 as its first three stand-alone designers that will show their Spring/Summer 2011/12 collections at Fashion Paramount in September.
Christine Tang’s penchant for party dresses, Chrissie Catling’s bold, minimalist look and Alvin Fernandez’s statement gowns will bring some serious fashion ‘cred’ to the new Fashion Paramount at Hackett Hall at the Western Australian Museum.
Winner of the PFF 2010 Designer of the Year award, Alvin Fernandez of Ae’lkemi said he was thrilled to be asked to be part of this year’s Festival.
“My business partner Annmarie and I were so excited to be invited to show at PFF. We are very much looking forward to staging our first solo show on home soil and can’t wait for the people of Perth to see what we do on an international and national level,” Mr Fernandez said.
PFF Director Mariella Harvey-Hanrahan said the line up of stand-alone designer shows at this year’s Festival is sure to impress and pique the interests of fashion followers of all tastes.
“Story By Tang, S2 and Ae’lkemi are three strong examples of the fashion talent we have in this State and we are delighted to have them on board for the 13th annual Festival. All have achieved widespread acclaim for their innovative designs and together have notched up an impressive show portfolio including StyleAid, G’Day USA, Milan Fashion Week and Rosemount Australian Fashion Week (RAFW).”
“Paramount will be the fashion pinnacle during the Festival and over the next few weeks we will have many other exciting designers and initiatives to announce as part of our 2011 program that is testament to the strength, diversity and growth of the Festival,” Ms Harvey-Hanrahan said.
“The Museum is an exciting and sophisticated new home for Fashion Paramount. The beauty of the venue is a fitting complement to fashion and its simplicity will ensure that all eyes are on the 32 designer collections we will be watching on the runway.”
Giant dinosaurs and prehistoric creatures will exit Hackett Hall in coming weeks so the architecturally and historically significant space can be transformed into a fashion venue able to cater for 5,000 guests over five nights.
With a European-inspired extra-wide runway, the Museum’s high ornate ceilings and stunning polished boards, the new Paramount’s understated elegance will be an impressive home for the Festival.

Event Alert!
WHAT: Made on the Left Winter market
WHEN: Sunday, 10 July, 11am – 5pmWHERE: 140 (Level 1 corner of William Street and Murray Street Mall, Perth City)
140 will host the next market for Made on the Left – a not-for-profit organisation that supports the best independently made art, design, fashion and homewares created right here on the left side of Australia.
Now in its fourth year, Made on the Left has seen a number of independent designers expand from selling their designs as stall holders to being stocked in WA boutiques, opening their own stores, and developing well-known brands that grace the catwalks and exhibitions of Perth Fashion Festival.
Inspired by vintage fashion from a young age Fern Vallesi began re-working preloved and broken jewellery components to create new pieces which she now sells under the label, She Seldom Blushes
Testing her designs at markets, including Made on the Left, she moved into wholesaling her jewellery at local boutiques and opened her own store in Atwell Arcade, Fremantle.
With a retro and vintage aesthetic Fern also stocks a number of WA designers including current Made on the Left stall holder, Mel P designs.
