Sorella's Australia Website Launch!

The Sorella’s Australia website is set to launch this weekend and it couldn’t come sooner.

With an online boutique with ‘BUY, SELL or SWAP” pages and a dedicated area to showcasing new season labels and e-stores as well as live feed updates – this website is set to be a great online destination for Australian women.

Become a VIP member of the site to receive discounts on products and services as well as pre-release info!

My favourite section for obvious reasons will be the ‘People and Fashion Blogspot’s” for members to browse the latest updates.

Sorella’s is already well on its way to being known as a quality, trusted, high end Australian site.

They are welcoming designers to showcase on their site and if you would like to get on board enquire at sorellas@live.com.au

This site is going to be home to all things fashion, with an Australian only audience, based on local and national labels and fine-tuning the online shopping craze. This site is set to create a great online forum and community for those women of Australia who love al things style and fashion.

I for one am very excited about the launch of this site – and cant wait to see how it turns out! They currently have a facebook page running, so be sure to check it out for a quick preview of whats to come!

Xpress - free Fashion magazine

A publication I always appreciate is Xpress newspaper. The first point would have to be because it is free. The second being that it has an unimaginable amount of information about local gigs events and entertainment events. Its really relevant to Perth and local talent which is great.

As one of the sponsors on Saturday they added to the goodie bag a Fashion magazine.

It can be read & downloaded here (for free) and is worth a look so check it out!

Monday Lowdown

Morning all.

Hope everyone had a good weekend! The Estreya Model Search night went really well, as soon as I get the computer program for my new camera installed on my computer I will post some photos! So sorry, Ive just bought a Canon Powershot Pro and used it for the first time that night.

For those of you in WA, check out the social pages this Wednesday for some photos as well!

Yesterday was the Huge Vintage Sale in Charles Street in the city – so I hope all you vintage lovers got down there and had a great time and scored some bargains! Some great stalls were there including The Ginger Fox and Awoke Vintage.

News; Of course the annual STYLEAID event is coming up – with this year’s Tribe theme. Final adjustments were made to swimsuits and gowns etc and was the designers last chance to make sure they had their looks down to a T. 17 designers, 21 student designers and 80 models are taking part.

This is a sellout event and only a few tickets left (see below for seating plan and sold out spots!) so if you haven’t already got your ticket to this event on July 30 – get in now.

The WA finalists for the Girlfriend magazine model search have been chosen and will be heading off East to join national finalists, in which only 6 are chosen. This is a pretty big model search run each year – finding the likes of Abbey Lee-Kershaw, Pania Rose and Samantha Harris – watch this space.

Stella McCartney has been signed up to do a collaboration with Adidas doe the 2010 London Olympic games. She’s been announced as the creative director for the British athletes uniforms. Starting in September there will be 4 collections between  now and the Olympics with clothes aimed at non-athletes and fans as well. Although sold only in the UK there is a chance they will be available online.

Scandal on the runway?

Patrick Mohr has caused a collective gasp from many fashionistas all around the world after presenting his collection at the Berlin Fashion Week.

Much of his collection was unisex clothing – some articles closely resembling boxer shorts. His models hair and makeup was done so that they were bald(!) sporting whiskers and wispy beards.

This is not the first time he has done so though, often breaking out of the traditional runway glamour, having used homeless people for models before, models with visible scars and bodybuilder muscles as well as orange spray tans. His website says of him

“excentric, somewhat provocative, outspoken, and very straightforward. His fashion ranges between avantgardist and streetwear, being far from a glamorous appearance.”

Patrick Mohr says of this 2010 “Are We Shaved” titled collection;

“In the end, it always comes down to one thing: men and women are one. I only see one human being, one person. For me, it all starts from that perspective.”

Have a look at the pics below. What’s your perspective?

Just have to share;

re-dyed my hair the other day - its such a deep red :)

How much networking is too much networking?

Some people say you can never have enough contacts, and in the fashion and stylist industry, I think that rings true. Models, photographers, event management, stylists etc – you never know when they can help you out, open you up to opportunities or whether you may need to know someone in that particular area to help you out.

However, when it comes to online networking and social networking site (twitter, myspace, facebook etc etc) how much is too much? There are hundreds of thousands of fashion bloggers out there and so many online networks and profile sites and forums that it is possible to be involved in. Where do you draw the line?

How much time do you dedicate to each as well? Lookbook.nu, Chictopia, Vogue and other fashion magazine forums. Do you just add yourself as a profile page or member, only to use it once or twice and become an inactive member? I find I don’t have the time to go and comment and upload and update every social networking site I'm joined to.

Can you ever have an even spread as well of your time? I think I could if it was my fulltime job! However, there are so many sites and opportunities to meet and be exposed to new people and blogs and designers and pictures etc that it get frustrating having to cull the amount of communities you join.

My head is not the best at remembering either so I re-discover a site 6 months after signing up and don’t know my login name or password!

Are you better off dedicating yourself to one or two networking sites and pumping it for all its worth?! Because even if you join some amazing networking community, no one bothers looking at a member who’s page says “Last activity April 2009”

The other line is personal or professional? Do you create your profile to read as someone looking for work or working in the industry or do you do it at a much more personal level and want people to get to know who you are, like a blog rather than a website. Especially for those starting out in the industry and wanting to get experience, you can’t palm yourself off as a professional with nothing to back it up!

So as much as networking is pivotal to the fashion industry and it really is a  ‘who you now’ business, make sure your contacts here from you regularly and that you maintain a constant input in your online community. Pick a few niche sites to join that suit you the most, rather than just being on a general online community under the sub category Arts>Textiles>Clothing>Fashion

What sites do you guys join? What do you think are the best social networking sites? If you have any questions as well – feel free to ask! Hope this helps.

10 Reasons;

>10 Reasons I'm Loving Magazines of Late

1. 1 -  Quality merchandise -  Hello Instyle umbrella, Collette Dinnigan Tshirt, Seduce maxi dress, Witchery gift cards, its been a while since Ive seen some shitty lipgloss in a colour that doesn’t suit me – keep it up

2. 2- Free samples – shampoos, moisturisers, facial scrubs – so good to chuck in your bag and have as emergency backups or for travel

3. 3 - Fashion blogger features – so many magazines have been recognising the talent in Australian fashion bloggers, getting them to write feature articles, understanding their power of their style of media and including them as well, just how they should!

4. 4 - Subscriptions – subscribe to your favourites. Guarantees you wont miss an issue, and a new mag in the mailbox makes your day. Good stuff

5. 5 -A bigger focus on websites. Thankyou for recognising the power of online shopping and listing top blogs as well, spread the word about sites, great online bargains which everyone appreciates.

6. 6 -They all have websites – more power to the websites which have online competitions and short articles, although you have to be careful, if this is overdone, you may not buy the mag at all!

7.  7 - Listing affordable clothing – go the people who feature a pair of Spendless Shoes next to a Miu Miu dress. Its good to see great things I know are well within my budget and not feel like every outfit is impossibly priced.

8.   8 - Featuring locals – I see more and more Australian businesswoman in articles, what they do, their shops, their stories. Woman in fashion and other local talent and designers – this is great, I'm all for supporting the  Australian fashion industry

9. 9 - Positivity! Depending on what you read as well, but I find the magazines I regularly pick up are full of happiness, health, inspiration, and less trashy celeb stories that are rotting my brain and that I couldn’t care less about.

1010 - Wide coverage of body shapes and sizes. More and more mags are catching on to the ‘dress for your shape trend’. Yes a certain something might be on trend right now, but it often doesn’t suit everyone. I find a lot of articles now show how to wear certain items or trends for curvy and petite and pear figures etc. Thankyou, we are not all size 0, 7 foot tall models.

Run Down of Fashion Events June

So I’ve missed a few events, here’s a quick run down as to what has been going on -

Perth Upmarket was on the 27th of June, with many textiles and crafty types getting together – this market is for designers, artists and stylists and would have been a great event. There will be another one if you missed it so stay tuned.

Styleaid models also had their audition on Sunday 26th June, so stay tuned for which models made it, of course you may have to wait for the event to find out who got it, which is only a few weeks away!!

Fashion High Tea was also on last weekend at Palais 85, featuring Ruth Tarvydas, Billie & Rose & Love in Tokyo

Two WA models Nicole Trunfio and Allegra Carpenter (from Perth!) will join Miranda Kerr for the David Jones launch in Sydney – go local talent!

Plenty more events coming up this week and this month and Ill be sure to keep you posted :)
